A workplace romance is not an unusual concept. At our jobs or in an office, we spend a lot of time around the same people so it’s highly likely that chemistry will eventually develop between co-workers sooner or later.
A couple that decides to start dating at work takes a journey that begins at HR disclosure, heads into relationship-ville and then, if it’s really something special — cruises on towards their happily ever after!
Today I share with you a unique tale highlighting what happens when one person takes a chance on revealing they have a secret crush and then the thrill of learning the object of that obsession has also been crushing on you too!
Throw in fours hours of back and forth road travel and a global pandemic – just to make things interesting – and you’ve got the love story of Taylor and Justin.
Justin vividly recalls seeing Taylor for the first time. Stepping into the HR office, he noticed a very pretty, then brown-haired, girl sitting at the spare desk. Temporarily distracted from his initial reason for entering the office; his only thought was
— “Who is that?? She’s beautiful!”
He consulted a friend who informed him that Taylor Page worked in the Connecticut office and only came up to the Maine facility once in a while. But once would be more than enough for Justin to remember her!
When covid made work conditions a little more challenging, Taylor and the other HR staff members had to hold their meetings outside to maintain social distancing. Justin took full advantage of these opportunities to get as close to the front of the crowd as possible to hear Taylor speak. The info was important but he was much more interested in the view.
Taylor’s first impression of Justin was after another one of his HR office pop-ins. He came in to ask questions about the forms she had just walked everyone through in the last meeting. Frustrated and feeling like no one was listening to her, her first memory of Justin was left a bit tainted.
They interacted again some time later when Justin had to interview for a new manager position. Though he ultimately received the job, he likes to tease Taylor that he was not, initially, her first choice.
Regardless, they began to spend more time together as he adjusted to his new role, and without realizing it her trips to Maine became more frequent and intentional.
For about six months they tiptoed around each other, unaware of the little things each was doing to cross paths with the other. Justin admitted that when Taylor visited the office, he always made sure the guest chair was closest to his desk than to the co-worker he shared the space with.
Finally, one day he decided to tell her how he felt. He bravely sent her possibly the most important text message of his life; informing Taylor that he had a massive crush on her. Thankfully, the news was met with the same sentiment. Taylor had been struggling with her own crush on Justin for months and was elated to hear that he felt the same way. And so they decided to give dating a chance.
Taylor remembers thinking that,
“I was in love with him after a week.”
Before long, Taylor was in Maine more often than not, and Justin happily welcomed her in his home. I don’t know that we can say the same for Aries. Taylor had to work a lot harder to gain the trust of Justin’s 100 pound canine bodyguard but sooner or later, Aries grew to love Taylor too and reclaimed her spot in the bed with them both!
To make any relationship work, a couple needs to talk to each other a lot and maintain their sense of humor. Justin spoke about how they try not to take anything too seriously, and spend their time laughing and joking around as much as possible instead.
He also notes that their opposite qualities are what seem to make them so compatible. Justin is the quieter one of the two, so he is content to let Taylor be the social butterfly but has also learned to engage more often just from being around with her.
In turn, Taylor has learned the value of being still and quiet from Justin. A self proclaimed worry wort, she has allowed Justin to calm her down and not get so stressed about things that haven’t even happened yet.
There are so many skills needed for a loving marriage to thrive and stand the test of time — these are a couple of ways they use their own unique traits to support their partner.
