Ally and Vinny

On the surface, this love story might appear quite simple. Two college freshman meet at the start of school, become friends, begin dating and stay together — for ever after. But there’s a deeper beauty that makes Ally and Vinny’s relationship so unique.

Throughout our lives we cross paths with so many different kinds of people, but it’s not often that we get that powerful sense that something’s just different with one particular person.

You can’t quite describe it or put it into words — you just know they are going to be important to you — maybe even be someone who will change your whole life.

And that is exactly how it was for Ally and Vinny.

Vinny arrived on campus three weeks early for soccer training. There he made friends with fellow athlete, Rachel, and their dorm rooms were on the same floor. As move-in day for the rest of the student body approached, Vinny asked Rachel if she knew who her roommate was yet. She showed him a picture of Ally. Impressed, but determined to keep his cool and be a gentleman, he replied “Oh, she’s very nice!”

Ally had been on campus for about an hour when Vinny stopped by their room to say hello. Overwhelmed by the whole process of moving in, the day went by in a blur and Ally barely remembered his name.

As she met everyone on her floor, she quickly got to know Vinny and they found themselves hanging within a circle of new friends often. They began spending a lot of time together and by the third day of college they stayed up talking til 5AM. They noticed that their conversations wandered into topics one might not go into with someone they just met, but for them everything felt totally natural.

Their friends would tease all the time. They could already see that they would be a perfect couple, even if they didn’t know it yet themselves. Ally remembers that within a week or two, people just knew, “we were each other’s person.”

With no car, college dates meant group trips to the dining hall or romantic dinners for two splitting the Pizza Hut $5 box. Their first real off-campus date came at holiday time when they went home and met their families. They spent New Year’s Eve at the local Buffalo Wild Wings.

As their college years drew to a close, they continued to factor each other in on their plans. Vinny began working his first job as a PE teacher, while Ally finished school, preparing for her career in occupational therapy.

When the commute between work, home and each other became too much, Vinny moved to Massachusetts and soon after, they began looking for a house together.

In their new home, they got to experience the holidays for the first time where Vinny proposed in front of their very own Christmas tree.

Over the years, they’ve built a strong foundation due to their great communication skills. They both remarked that being with each other has always felt easy because they can talk about everything.

That’s not to say that they haven’t had their share of tough times. They spoke about how they are able to see when stress is coming on for their partner and the actions they take to head anxiety off at the pass.

Whether it’s sharing a joke or giant hug, sometimes that’s all that’s needed to bring them down off the ledge. These simple gestures remind them that everything will work out — after all, it always does.

Ally and Vinny have used these skills to get them this far and without a doubt they will serve them well in their married years to come.
