Our story begins in a small community where practically everyone knows everybody — except for Jasmyn and Josh. Their four year age difference meant that while they shared similar social circles and connections amongst family members, they had never met or spoke to each other.
Enter social media — a virtual connection to everyone! It was on Instagram that Josh found Jasmyn. They followed each other for a while, until one day he decided message her. With a confidence other’s seldom possess, he saw an opportunity to talk to a beautiful girl and took it.
Jasmyn on the other hand was less impulsive and more suspicious. Who was this guy and why did he want her number? His message went unanswered for about a month. When he inquired again, this time her interested was peaked. Clearly, he was not going away anytime soon. She decided to give him a chance. A few days later they met up for their first date; sushi for dinner followed by a movie.
A second date quickly followed because Josh conveniently left his wallet in Jasmyn's purse. She had held on to it for him during the movie and so, of course, he had to see her again to get it back.
Jasmyn shared that these two things have basically defined their relationship; eating sushi and Josh forgetting where he left things!
Shortly after that, they spent the entire day together in New York City, just after the start of the new year. There, they enjoyed all the typical sighting seeing activities for another perfect date. That day began a tradition of celebrating their dating anniversary in the city and ultimately became the backdrop for their engagement.
Over the past 8 and a half years, they have grown a love for experiences over materials things. The enjoyed hiking and created a goal of getting to the highest peak in every state — so far, 6 down only 44 more to go!
At lower attitudes, they can be found on the golf course. While this is more Josh’s sport than Jasmyn’s, she is learning and is happy just keep to him company. They also love short road trips to places like Newport in nice weather, especially in the spring for her birthday.
In years past, their free time was often spent coaching cheer leading and football, but they have made the conscience choice to scale that back in favor of focusing on more quality time together.
They’ve also learned a lot about how to balance each other out. Josh says Jasmyn is better at planning and organizing than he is. She’s great at researching all the options and finding the answer seven though she teases him that he has access to the same exact Google that she has.
Jasmyn relies on Josh to calm her when she’s stressed. He’s always there with a voice of reason providing alternate ways to look at the situation that keeps her from jumping off a cliff!
She admires his commitment to his friends and how he’d go out of his way help anyone. Josh appreciates her motivation and her drive to do everything to the best of her ability.
They have both noticed an increase in their patience has a result of being together which I’m sure is helpful for all types of situations.
One thing is for sure, Jasmyn and Josh have found many ways to leverage their own unique qualities to benefit them as a couple. These skills with may be tested in their married years, but with humor — and a good supply of sushi — there’s nothing they can’t figure out!
