Should your friend or relative officiate your wedding?

Asking a friend or relative to officiate your wedding has become a popular way to honor a special person and add a personal connection to the ceremony.

Before asking them to take on the work required for this important role, here are a few ways they can be involved without being responsible for the entire the ceremony.

Ask them to deliver a reading:

A heartfelt poem, quote, or scripture can be a beautiful personal touch.

Invite them to join a ceremony ritual:

Include them in a ring blessing, hand-fasting, candle lighting, or other symbolic moment.

Let them tell your story:

A professional officiant can lead the ceremony while your loved one shares the love story portion — the best of both worlds.

If you have your heart set on having your friend or relative officiate the entire ceremony, we can help them shine in that role.

Partnering with my colleague, Shelley Armatino, we created a specialized training called Can’t Wait 2 Officiate. We offer a complete preparation guide full of tips, a customizable ceremony template, and a love story questionnaire to help them write a ceremony that feels personal and professional.

They can also schedule a 1-on-1 coaching session with me or Shelley to get confident, polished, and ready for the big day.

We're happy to work with Guest Officiants or new professionals just starting their journey in this wonderful business.
