Marlene and Scott were simply a joy to meet and work with for their wedding ceremony. Literally endless stories and laughs from their first consult all the way through to wedding day. Theirs is a love of trains, ice cream and enjoying wherever the road trip takes them, especially if it's to a hot dog joint in Toledo!
Here is the love story shared during their ceremony: Married May 4th, 2024 — The Pond House, West Hartford, CT
In this modern era, when couples of the millennial, Gen Y and other such letter groups are meeting via dating apps, swiping left and right to find their match — Marlene and Scott discovered one resource no one would have ever thought to try; your local insurance agency.
I’m not sure if anyone has ever made a direct comparison between marriage and insurance in a wedding ceremony but it’s actually pretty easy to see just how similar the two concepts are.
Insurance is obtained to provide you with peace of mind. When you feel like your health, property, or business are protected from the unforeseen, there’s a sense of calm, knowing that whatever comes your way, you’ll get through it.
The same peace can be found in a person. With the right partner, you feel secure knowing, they’ll be there to care for, comfort and protect you. A person that chooses to stick by your side, no matter what, is pretty amazing but when you add in all the fun you have together, it’s even better. Finding someone out there who really gets you and all the unique things you’re into — like swap meets, train watching and road trips — is no small feat. So how do two such people get together?
Marlene’s former boss, Gerry, can take some of the credit for making this connection. Preparing to be out of the office for vacation, she knew exactly who she could trust with the care of a new client. Scott had multiple policies to manage making Marlene the obvious to choice to assist him.
Marlene recalls meeting him in the office for the first time; struck by his amazing smile. Listening to her gush about him, Scott provides us with proof of her assessment — smiling warmly and responding that he knows; she tells him all the time.
They kept in touch often, mostly business related conversations at first but slowly became friends. They evolved from emails to a playful hunt to find Scott’s profile on Facebook. They chatted on messenger almost every night until finally Scott said “Why don’t you just call me?”
They’d talk on the phone daily for hours at a time, like two smitten teenagers. But even at this point, they had some lingering doubts. What if the other was just being nice and not really interested in them? What if they took a chance and it ruined a great business relationship?
Finally, Marlene bravely asked Scott out for coffee to which he replied,
“I think we can do better than coffee.”
And so, a first date occurred at the local steak house followed by a 3 hour drive in the truck ending at the Berlin train station.
Looking back on it all, Scott comments that, in the end, Marlene managed to get all his insurance and his heart, too! What more could a guy ask for! Nine years later, they’re still driving each other crazy in a way that only two people who really love each other can get away with.
It’s no secret, that Marlene and Scott have each experienced various heartbreaks and challenges before they found each other. But as the saying goes, every rainbow first needs rain and these two certainly deserve every day of sunshine they’ve brought into each other’s lives since they’ve met.
While it’s not always easy to be thankful for the tough times of the past, maybe we need to go through them in order to find the joy that awaits on the other side.
Today, Marlene and Scott make it work by enjoying the simple pleasures. Whether it’s train watching in the summer or people watching in the mall in the winter, each occasion is accompanied by ice cream and laughter.
They describe their relationship as a good blend of spontaneity and structure. Quite possibly the perfect road trip partners, Marlene handles the lists and the packing while Scott creates the general plan of where they’d like to end up. And they both are completely fine diverting from the intended itinerary, especially if it involves trains or a new hot dog joint they haven’t tried yet.
Marlene says that as long he drives she’s content to be the “passenger princess”; her royal duties include pumping gas, and popping inside for coffee or snacks.
Together, Scott and Marlene are proving how much better any journey is when your favorite person takes the ride with you!
