About a year ago, I was walking the ballroom at Great River Golf Club after setting up my table for the Wedding Steps bridal show when I was stopped in my tracks by the display created by Flowers by Danielle. Owner, Danielle Farrer greeted me, but I was stuck in awe by the beauty of her gorgeous arrangements – I think I was actually speechless for a moment! I knew immediately that I had met a true talent and have been sending brides her way ever since.
Recently, Danielle gave me a tour around her Trumbull studio and we chatted about her 19-year journey in the floral business. Starting with part time work at a flower shop in high school, Danielle immediately found floral design as a way to express her creativity.
After college, she quickly learned that traditional corporate life was not for her and started her own business at the age of 23. Today, Danielle describes herself as someone who can’t sit down. She can be found in the shop, always on her feet, creating and learning new techniques whenever possible.
Her business has thrived by building a team of like-minded creative folks whose personal care goes into every arrangement. Danielle’s own head designer, Claudia, says that each bridal bouquet is carefully constructed as if it was for her own daughter’s wedding. This is the level of dedication and care that has made Flowers by Danielle so successful with weddings, showers and special events.
Behind the scenes, Danielle’s partner is also her husband of 15 years, Jay. I very much admire the way the two of them have used their strengths to not only make their business a success but build it in a such a way that allows them to enjoy family time. Purposely choosing a location for their shop that’s close to home, allows Danielle the ability to be the mom she needs to be for their two children, Madison and James. Anyone who owns a business knows that it is not easy, especially if that business requires you to be creative all the time. Now add being a wife and mom – you’ve got yourself a full plate. But Danielle is managing it all with grace and style! My hat is off to her any day of the week!
